What should you offer as part of a monthly membership?
Now you know why you should launch a monthly membership and how you can do it with Fanbase it’s time to take a look at how some sports teams around the globe have implemented memberships as part of their strategy.
If you remember from our previous blog, 70% of business leaders said subscription business models will be key to their prospects in the years ahead so why not get ahead of the curve and take some inspiration from some of the biggest organisations worldwide…
Aberdeen FC - AberDNA
SPFL Premiership side Aberdeen launched their AberDNA membership scheme back in March 2018 and have had great success. For a rolling monthly subscription fans can show their support for the club from anywhere around the world with funds used exclusively to support football operations. Currently the Dons have 6,000 adult members and 9,000 junior members signed up to the monthly subscription, bringing in over £1 million annually.
DNA members receive a free replica shirt every season in addition to an exclusive members only souvenir pack that has contained water bottles, stationary and a beanie hat / scarf combo in recent years. Another part of the package are invitations to member only events, that have included tours of the new training ground to exclusive Q & A sessions with players and management and more.
Worth touching on the Junior membership again, the Dons have done a great job of engaging with the younger generation with this. As mentioned 9,000 juniors have signed up so far - giving them access to 2 free U12 tickets every season, opportunity to sign for the dons at events throughout the season and access to exclusive events and experiences. All completely free, a great way of getting the younger generation engaged with the club at the earliest opportunity!
Paris Saint Germain - Myparis International
When you look at the ‘Top tier’ of sports teams around the globe, most offer a international membership on a yearly/seasonal basis that gives fans priority when it comes to purchasing tickets for home matches that aren’t sold out after season ticket sales and PSG are no different.
Other benefits include the chance to win match worn shirts / memorabilia in exclusive competitions and a discount on all merchandise purchased from the online store. This type of membership from PSG is a great way for international fans to still engage with the club and have the opportunity to attend any games that they want to throughout the season.

Los Angeles Dodgers - Dodgers at Home
Probably one of our favourite memberships out there on the market, fans of the Dodgers can sign up to the Dodgers at Home membership on an annually / quarterly basis.
By becoming a member fans not only get access to a content portal which is updated with exclusive videos, photos and player content throughout the season. It’s not all content though, every quarter fans are sent a bonus box - featuring free gifts such as a knitted hat and scarf combo, coffee mugs and even famous dodger dogs during the COVID pandemic!
As you can see there are a whole load of benefits you can offer as part of a membership at your sports club, from content to free gifts and priority ticketing. These three are just a few of the examples found around the globe, if you are looking for further inspiration just have a look on the internet and see what you can find.
